One by one, the cardinals tasked with electing the next Pope arrived at the New Synod Hall inside the Vaticanfor the first official congregation.
The meetings, which are open to all cardinals, not just those with voting rights, serve as a space for the cardinals to discuss the state of the Church.
For the first day, the cardinals, will meet twice, once in the morning, and once in the evening time. They are expected to set the agenda for the remaining general congregations. They are also expected to announce the date of the start of the conclave sometime this week.
