Pope: Christian values are the basis of a nation's growth

Devotion to family, defence of human life, promotion of the religious needs of young people especially, are the basis for moral growth and human nations. Benedict XVI stressed this in a speech delivered to Gioki Gjorgjevski, Ambassador of the ex-Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, who presented his credentials. Benedict XVI recalled the deep Christian roots of Macedonia, rooted in the preaching of saints Cyril and Methodius, and expressed his support for the Macedonian request to enter the European Union, and for the path towards peaceful progress made in recent years.
